OS250 Creating a Virtual Office
Covers all aspects of creating an office for a virtual assistant. Includes developing an individual business plan, analyzing office needs for furniture and equipment, creating a marketing plan incorporating a social media marketing strategy, establishing a fee rate range, identifying software requirements, planning a company website, and creating a file management system. This course covers all aspects of creating a home-based virtual assistant business. A virtual assistant or VA is a home-based administrative professional who uses technology to remotely support clients.
Students will create a business plan, marketing plan, and financials for a start-up home-based virtual assistant business; analyze office needs for furniture and equipment; establish a fee schedule; identify software requirements; and plan a company website. Each section of the business plan (which includes a marketing and financial section) is submitted for credit and feedback. Be prepared to create a professionally written business plan that could be presented to a bank loan officer.
To be successful in this course, students should be proficient in both Microsoft Word and Excel (for the financial statements). Work experience in an office administrative function for two years is very helpful.Recommended prerequisite: CAS 246

To maintain registered status, students must access this online course and complete the required assignment by Wednesday of Week One. This assignment will be available within Desire2Learn (D2L) when course access begins on the first day of the term. Your position in the class can be offered to a student on the wait list if you do not access the online course room.
