CEU941E Pain Management for Health Professionals

Covers an overview of pain management, including barriers to effective pain management, the key to proper assessment, neuropathic pain and pharmacological interventions. 

The under-treatment of pain is causing much needless suffering, according to recent research. Many leading pain organizations such as the American Pain Society and American Academy of Pain Medicine are calling for better education on pain management. This class will cover an overview of pain in America, including barriers to effective pain management and the truth about addiction. It will also address the key to proper assessment, neuropathic pain and pharmacological interventions. Discussion of a multidisciplinary approach is given, along with case studies and specifics about practicing in Oregon. This workshop meets 6 contact hours of mandated education in Pain Management, required by the Oregon State Board of Nursing, for registered nurses and nurse practitioners. Provider approved by the California State Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 12654.
