From the Instructor:
As the world becomes more complex, the ability to reason correctly about complex issues is critical for truthful communication and effective action. Hence, reasoning skills are fundamental skills for success--perhaps more than ever before. Fortunately, critical thinking can be improved through study and habitual practice. ..... In this course, we will examine what we do when we reason well and some of the ways our critical thinking can go wrong. We will also investigate what to look for when we are attempting to understand and evaluate the thinking of others. The primary purpose of this course is to equip ourselves with the fundamental critical thinking skills necessary for correct reasoning and mature thinking. The primary methods of this course are focused study, philosophical reflection, diligent practice with critical-thinking exercises, and rational discourse. Prerequisites: WR 115, RD 115, and MTH 20 or equivalent placement test scores are acceptable.
