This course explores how principles of interpersonal communication operate in everyday work life such as: communication processes, barriers and misconceptions; impact of cultural values and norms; influences of perception and judgment; communication and self-talk; creating and responding to messages; characteristics of nonverbal communication and their impact; listening effectively; identifying and controlling emotions; developing an effective communications climate; and effectively managing conflict.
Course Specific Requirements:
This three-credit, interactive, distance-learning course, can only be accessed via Desire2Learn using one of the links from MyPCC. The required text is: Interplay: The Process of Interpersonal Communication, 12th edition. The class is structured so you can participate for the first 2 weeks without a textbook. The SE Campus library has a copy of the book you can use on campus. Additional reading material is provided through links to articles on the web.
