GRN181 Exploring the Field of Aging provides an overview of emerging career areas working with older adults, and guides students through a process of self-assessment, job market analysis, informational interviews, site visits, planning and goal setting for the educational and training requirements of the student's priority career pathways. This course is required for the AAS Degree and most certificates in Gerontology, but is also suitable for students determining whether a career in aging is right for them. Course Specific Requirements:
This course uses Desire2Learn, the PCC Learning Management Software that delivers online courses. To login, please go to https://my.pcc.edu and click on the Desire2Learn login link on the left of your MyPCC homepage. If you are new to distance learning or D2L, please do the online orientation. Students enrolled in an ITWeb sections of this course should attend the Orientation Workshop on Saturday, April 5th, from 9am to 12:30pm on the campus of your choosing - SY, RC, CA, SE Center, or Newberg (Check the schedule for the exact location). Student enrolled in the online section can also attend the workshop at any location, but will be able to view the video stream in the D2L course later in the day as well, or by the following Monday at the latest. The required textbook, Managing Your Career in Aging, is available in PCC Bookstores (It is also used for other Gerontology Career Management Courses: GRN280A&B and 282). All other materials are available in the online course. You are invited to attend the optional Gerontology Term Orientation on Monday, March 31st, from 5 to 7pm in SCB104 on the Sylvania Campus - a great opportunity to meet your instructors in this and other Gerontology courses, as well as other students! All the CRNs for this course are combined in D2L. Students also gain access to their ePortfolios & to the Gerontology Program Homeroom in D2L in the second week of the term.
