WR122 English Composition
Continues the focus of WR 121 on academic writing as a means of inquiry with added emphasis on persuasion and argument supported by external research. Uses critical reading, discussion and the writing process to explore ideas, develop cultural awareness and formulate original positions. Emphasizes development of writing and critical thinking through logical reasoning, rhetorical control, independent research and information literacy. Prerequisite: WR 121. Audit available. - This section of WR 122 will focus on the theme of food politics.
- Course Specific Requirements:
- Required texts are: Food, Inc. edited by Karl Weber, 2009; A Rulebook for Arguments, 4th edition, by Anthony Weston; and The Curious Researcher, 7th edition, by Bruce Ballenger. It is important that the right editions of the textbooks are purchased as there have been extensive modifications to both books, and older versions will not be compatible with class assignments. You will need the textbooks beginning the first week of class, so please order in advance, if possible. The main components of this course include 3 essays, 1 proposal/conference, and weekly readings, discussion posts, and argument and research activities. Students registering should have fairly recent WR 121 level experience including some familiarity with research skills and MLA format. All of the work for this class is done online.
