Fallen Oregon Service Member Tuition Waiver

Spouses and dependent children of fallen Oregon United States military personnel may be eligible for a Fallen Oregon Service Member (FSM) tuition waiver. The tuition waiver is intended to provide dependents of fallen Oregon soldiers the opportunity to earn their first associates degree and will cover up to 135 credits or a degree (whichever comes first). Course fees or other expenses related to enrollment with PCC are not covered by the FSM waiver.

The FSM waiver is available to the families of service men and women who died while participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom or the Afghanistan Campaign or while deployed outside the United States in combat or combat support operations as part of the Global War on Terrorism.

To receive the FSM waiver, please submit the application form with the following information to any campus business office:

  • Proof of dependent status (DD Form 93)
  • Proof of the residency and death of the Oregon service member resulting from the Iraq Campaign, Afghanistan Campaign, Global War on Terrorism Service (DD 214 or DD 215) *
  • Proof of residency of the applicant within the Portland Community College service area, which includes Washington, Multnomah, Clackamas, Columbia and Yamhill counties.

* A service member of the United States military may have been killed prior to meeting the criteria for a Campaign Award. In this situation, the award of the Purple Heart medal will suffice when this award is listed on the DD 214.

This waiver offer will end no later than 21 years after the death of the Oregon Service member and is subject to review and cancellation by Portland Community College.
