COMPASS Test
About the test
COMPASS stands for Computerized Adaptive Placement Assessment and Support System.
- It is a comprehensive computerized placement and assessment system.
- The COMPASS tests are not timed.
- Students cannot return to a question once they have answered it, so be very careful before selecting ‘Go On’.
Reading and Writing Tests
- Students should ensure that they understand the online test instructions. If a student presses ‘Go On’ without answering all of the questions, the test will end too soon with a resulting low score.
Math Test
- Students decide whether to start in Pre-Algebra (basic math) or Algebra (strong elementary algebra level).
- Will self-adjust (up to Calculus or Trigonometry, if the skills are there).
- May be taken using a calculator, and also has an online calculator if the student prefers.
- During the math test, if a student misses a pre-determined percentage of questions, it will automatically end the test at that point, and the skill level will be assessed from the questions answered to that point.
