District
Joshua Liebschutz, PCC District Service-Learning Program Coordinator, 971-722-4419
After moving to Portland in 2007 to teach Environmental Science at PCC, Joshua became very involved in sustainability programming at the college and eventually started the Sylvania Environmental Center and Learning Garden. This work in sustainabilty led Joshua to focus more on creating opportunities for students to become involved with the many nonprofit and educational organizations in Portland. As the PCC Service-Learning Program Coordinator, Joshua works to help other faculty develop succesful service-learning assignments for their classes.
Cascade Campus
Kathleen Doss, Service-Learning Faculty Coordinator
Having participated with Service Learning in Hawai'i, as both a student and an instructor of speech communication, I am quite enthusiastic about the benefits of Service Learning! This is my first year as Service Learning Coordinator for the Cascade campus and I am looking forward to working with all involved in Service Learning, especially with Community Partners in our neighborhood.
Rock Creek Campus
Zapoura Newton-Calvert, Service-Learning Faculty Coordinator
Since receiving her MA in English from Portland State University in 2004, Zapoura has taught creative, collaborative writing and community-based learning courses at PSU, PCC, and Marylhurst University. She has extensive background in developing and supporting new teaching collaborations and has also served as a mentor and facilitator for other teachers integrating community-based work into their courses. Her own service learning classes partner with local schools and education organizations and embody her teaching philosophy, which focuses on the benefits of building sustainable learning partnerships among local institutions. She believes that bringing students into the community for learning creates spaces for discussion, develops deeper learning, and encourages working for positive change.
Southeast Center
Monica Christofili, Service-Learning Faculty Coordinator
For five years I have lived in Portland, and for four of these I have taught at PCC where I am currently a temporary full-time RD/WR instructor for credit and DE classes and for Southeast Center’s Project DEgree program. My B.A. in English from New Jersey's Rowan University and my M.A. in American Literature from San Diego State University were my trail toward Cascadia, but it really was my love of the otter that brought me to live in the Pacific NW. During stints at Rock Creek, the Hillsboro Learning Center, and Cascade campus, my belief in the untapped potential of my community college students and in their responsibility to know their community has become as dedicated and persistent as the Oregon moss I enjoy seeing on outdoor excursions. Most recently, my interest in civic engagement and my belief in the worth of service-learning in the classroom have led me to become my campus’ Service-Learning Faculty Coordinator.
Sylvania Campus

Upon graduating, she returned home to work with local non-profit organizations for three years before pursuing her MA in Spanish at Portland State University. Sarah has been a full-time Spanish instructor at PCC Sylvania since Fall 2006.
