Step Up & Serve: Be Part of Something Bigger – MLK Jr. Day 2010
Have you ever wanted to be a part of something bigger? To stand with a group and say “Look what we have accomplished!” Well now is the time! Eleven Portland colleges and universities are coming together to MAKE HISTORY in Portland on Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2010.
On January 18th, 2010 it truly will be a “Day On, Not a Day Off” as over 1,200 higher education students come together to rally in the morning and then participate in service projects all over Portland. Mayor Sam Adams and the King Elementary children’s choir will be among those leading the rally. Our coalition of schools has partnered with Hands On Greater Portland to find service projects and make this day a success.
A committee of staff and students leaders from all eleven of the schools have come together to truly make this day work and be all about Dr. King’s message. Participating schools include: Portland Community College, Warner Pacific College, University of Portland, Reed College, Linfield College, Lewis & Clark College, Concordia University, Portland State University, George Fox University, Mt Hood Community College, and Multnomah University.
We are offering transportation to and from the event from the following locations:
Sylvania pick up: From Mt. Park Church (overflow lot) at 7:45 a.m.
- To reach the church over-flow lot drive south on 49th past the main entrance to Sylvania. Turn left at the first stop light (McNary). Follow McNary to the first stop sign and then turn right. Church parking lot will be on your right. Please park in the large church lot.
Cascade pick up: Shuttle stop on N Kirby at 8:00 a.m.
Southeast pick up: Warner Pacific College (SE 68th & Division) at 8:00 a.m.
