Fall In-Service 2009
Video: A message for 2009-10:
Student Access and Success
Welcome. I hope you’re having a great summer as we get ready to kick off the 2009-10 academic year at Portland Community College.
This year, in a cost-cutting effort, we have consolidated two days of In-Service to one day, featuring both district-wide and campus-specific presentations. Facing this recession and a 10 percent funding hit from the Legislature, we felt like this would be a good way to conserve resources.
But even though budgets are tight, now more than ever it is important that we come together as a district to celebrate our strengths and accomplishments, and to share with you some of our goals for the coming year. The sharply increasing enrollment is proof positive that PCC is a good place to be in bad economic times.
At the start of each campus In-Service, we will dedicate about an hour to some district-wide messages. Such as: What’s happening on the bond measure voters OK’d last November? We also will talk about the absolutely amazing work staff and faculty did last year, raising money for the PCC Foundation scholarships. If any of you got to go to the Foundation’s scholarship banquet, then you saw first-hand how your contributions benefit our students.
On Sept. 9, 2009, all PCC campuses and centers go tobacco-free, making us, by far, the largest institution of higher education in Oregon to take this healthy step. We’ll talk about those opportunities, too.
After our presentation, the rest of the day will be focused on your campus.
This year’s In-Service won’t have all the same bells and whistles you’ve come to expect. So we’re adding some new bells and whistles. In-Service will be an event not to be missed.
Have a fantastic summer and we’ll see you back on your campuses in the fall.
