Taking online exams
Stressed about that online exam? Here are a few tips that should make sure your exam goes well:
- Plan ahead. Set up a time to take the exam.
- Don’t wait until the last minute to take the exam.
- For paragraph questions, compose your answer in a word processor then copy your response to the quiz. (See image)

- Save your answers as you go. Saved answers are stored on the server.
- Maximize your quiz window to make sure you see the entire question.
If you encounter a problem, don’t panic.
Try the following:
- If the progress window on your quiz doesn’t display, try reloading the frame. Right click on the frame and choose refresh, press F5 on your keyboard (command-R on a Mac).
- If refreshing a quiz doesn’t work, or if the main part of the quiz gives you an error, close the quiz window. Then open the quiz again to continue where you left off.
- If you get a “Session already in Progress” error, log out and quickly log back in and continue your quiz.
- If you have been saving your answers as you go, you can start taking the quiz from where you left off.
- Call the student help desk for assistance: 503-977-8222. Someone will answer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- If you only have a short time left and you can’t save your quiz, copy your answers to an e-mail or document and send them to your instructor.
