English Placement Test

All students whose first language is not English are required to take an English placement test to determine if it is necessary to take courses in our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program. If you have completed a college level writing course in the U.S. you may not need to take the test. Please contact Admission at international@pcc.edu to help determine if you need to take the test.

Depending on the test results, some students will be required to study English intensively for a number of terms and others may be advised to take part-time ESOL courses and part-time courses in their degree program. Students who do not need to take ESOL courses based on their test scores, will be allowed to take courses full-time in their major.

The placement test is not timed so you can take as much time as you need to complete it. When you pick up your test results for the writing and reading portion of the test, you will speak with an ESOL instructor who will evaluate your speaking skills.

ESOL credits count toward all PCC degrees and will transfer to some universities. For more detailed information regarding English and Math placement testing, please see the Test Guide included in your admission packet.

If you have not taken the English placement test, please contact Admissions in the Office of International Education (OIE). backnext
