Wendy Palmer, Coordinator of Access Resources | 503-977-4483 | TTY: 503-246-4072
Requests should be submitted a minimum of fifteen work days prior to your need.
OSD offers a variety of alternate media formats for all eligible students with reading-related disabilities. Students’ textbooks and other printed materials can be converted into audio format (so students can listen to material using regular and specially-formatted players), electronic format (so students can use adaptive computer software to access material), and enlarged format (where material is enlarged using a photocopy machine).
Audio Format
How To Obtain This Service
- Your disability service counselor will determine your eligibility.
- If approved, you may complete a “Request for Alternate Media Format Services” form for each piece of material needed and submit it to the Coordinator of Access Resources. This form requires your signature indicating that you understand the terms of service.
- Material may be available from OSD’s institutional membership with Recordings for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFBD) or from publishers.
- Material not available from outside sources may be produced by OSD. If you choose to use this service, you must provide the text and a purchase receipt copy (for copyright laws). OSD removes the book spine, scans the material, works with you to select a suitable delivery format, 10 and rebinds the material if you wish.
Terms of Service
- If the material is not suitable for this format, you will work with OSD to select another format.
- You will immediately contact OSD to change or cancel this request.
- You will not duplicate any materials you receive for this service or share them with anyone else.
- You will return the material at the end of the term in its original container unless other arrangements have been approved.
- If material is provided from RFBD, you may borrow a special player from the college for the entire term. If your material can be played on regular players, you are responsible for providing your own listening equipment for off-campus use.
- If you choose to allow OSD to produce your material:
- You will provide the text/material and the text purchase receipt (for copyright laws).
- You will allow OSD to remove the spine from your text.
