Emergency Evacuation Procedures / Students with Mobility Impairments

If students with mobility impairments are unable to use the elevators during an emergency evacuation (during a fire or other natural disaster), PCC has established the following procedures:

  1. The student should request assistance from others in the area. PCC has manual or motorized chair track devices that can move a person who is either in or out of a wheelchair. Building evacuation maps note the locations of these devices.

  2. If assistance is not immediately available, the student should stay in the “Area of Refuge” (under appropriate signs) and continue to call for help until rescued. Rescue personnel, fire, and police will first check all exit corridors and exit stairwells for trapped persons.
