Accessibility features

Each campus maintains an inventory of accessibility equipment:

  • Hardware may include adjustable desk heights to accommodate wheel chairs, large screen monitors, headphones with mics, ergonomic chairs, keyboards and mice.
    • Adjustable desks are equipped with electric motors that allow the height to be adjusted with the push of a button.
    • Ergonomic chairs are tailored to fit the natural curvature of the spine, support proper posture, and adapt to the user’s movements.
    • Large screen monitors are computer displays that have significantly larger screen sizes compared to standard monitors.
    • DaVinci Enhanced Vision workstations which provide a desktop magification camera and display, along with full-page text-to-speech (OCR) software.
  • Software may include audible software, which speaks to the user as the mouse is scrolled over text, and text enlargement software.
    • Freedom Scientific Fusion is screen reader software designed to aid individuals with vision impairments. Fusion combines two programs, JAWS (Job Access With Speech) and ZoomText, to provide a comprehensive suite of tools for screen reading, screen magnification, and visual enhancements.
    • Read & Write is a tool designed to assist individuals with reading, writing, studying, and research tasks, particularly those with dyslexia, learning difficulties, or other literacy challenges.
    • Natural Reader is a text-to-speech software designed to convert written text into spoken words and is helpful for individuals who have difficulties with reading, such as those with dyslexia, those who are learning a language, or people who prefer auditory learning.
    • NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) is screen reader software designed to enable blind and visually impaired users to interact with and access computers running the Windows operating system.

Check your campus computer lab for specific equipment. You may also order equipment through Accessible Ed & Disability Resources.

NEW: PaperCut printing

In collaboration with the PCC Print Center, Information Technology is migrating student print management at PCC from using GoPrint to a service called PaperCut. Starting this month – February 2024, PCC will begin offering PaperCut print management within the Student Computing Centers (SCC) at all PCC Libraries.

Why is this change occurring?

GoPrint has been in use at the college for 10+ years and lacks modern printing capabilities including printing from laptops over WiFi, and a modern Web User portal. The existing student print credit of $10 per term will remain unchanged with the PaperCut deployment. PCC is standardizing on PaperCut for print management for both employees and students.

PaperCut on PCC Chromebooks

To get set up, on your Chromebook click a campus link (below) based on where you want to print to, and then follow the instructions.

PaperCut on your Personal Device

In order to print in the PCC Student Computing Centers within the Library, you will need to be onsite and connected to PCCWifi. Mobility print will work with Windows, Mac, iOS, Mac OS, Chromebook, and Android devices.

You will click on the campus that you are at (Above), then the icon that represents your device, or operating system, in order to install the PaperCut printer to your personal device.

Orientation and account activation

Each year, students need to complete an online orientation on any computer at a Computer Resource Center or PCC library to establish a lab login. Only currently enrolled students are eligible to take the orientation and create a login.

Each term, students will need to re-activate their accounts using the “Update Account” button on the screen. Once activated, the SCC account is valid for all campus SCC’s for the duration of the term.

Additional computing resources

Other computing resources may be found in PCC libraries. Also, many academic departments manage specialized computer labs for students taking their classes.

Requesting software

Faculty chairs and Deans can use the IT Service Request page to access the Classroom Software Request form, allowing faculty to request software in PCC Classrooms and Computer Labs. All software requests must be approved by a faculty department chair or division dean. Software installation only take place between terms and must be requested by the 5th week of the prior term to ensure enough time for various teams to ensure functionality and accessibility requirements are met.
