What We Do

Portland Books To Prisoners is an all-volunteer collective working to distribute books free of charge to prisoners. We are dedicated to offering  people behind bars the opportunities for self-empowerment, education, and entertainment that reading provides.

Opportunities for service with us

Volunteer nights are on the 1st & 3rd WEDNESDAYS of each Month 5:30-8:30PM. Help us open letters, match up requests, and package books.

Our project space is located downstairs at the Red & Black Cafe on SE 12th & Oak St: 400 SE 12th Ave, Portland, OR 97214. Go around the side of the cafe on the 12th street side, through the gate and left down the stairs.

If it is your first time volunteering with us, someone will be happy to show you what to do.
