What We Do

Animal Aid is a charitable non-profit organization funded solely through private donations and dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals. Our mission is to reduce animal birth rates and suffering through proactive education, financial assistance to community members who cannot afford urgent veterinary care, and finding permanent homes for the animals (some with special needs) in our care. Animal Aid provides the necessary veterinary care and socialization before adoption to loving, responsible, permanent homes. Without volunteers, Animal Aid would not exist. That's why we're always in need of dedicated volunteers to help care for animals during their stay at the shelter. If you love animals and can spare as little as one morning or evening per week, our animals need you!

Opportunities for service with us

On-site volunteers supervised by a paid staff person or experienced volunteer may provide food, water, brushing, love and attention to our animals, and assist with cleaning kennels (training and 20+ hours required for this opportunity), washing dishes and laundry, and changing litter boxes and bedding. Other volunteer opportunities include: socializing cats in the shelter, Adoption Counselors (long term commitment required - training provided), assist at a Fundraising event,  act as an Animal Aid representative at local Animal Aid outreach events, or assist with website support of Animal Aid programs. Our Special Projects teams even hire themselves out for a weekend as canine agility ring crews to earn money for our Fund for Veterinary Care!

If you are interested, please visit our Web site (http://www.AnimalAidPDX.org) and complete our online Volunteer Application. Once completed the signature sheet of the application can be mailed or faxed to us at addresses shown at the top of the form. Please call if you have any questions!
