What We Do

Adelante Mujeres is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization based in Forest Grove, Oregon.  Our mission is to empower local low-income families through education and enterprise opportunities.  We currently serve over 200 families in western Washington County through our four program branches: Adult Education, Early Childhood Education, Youth Leadership, and Micro Enterprise.

Opportunities for service with us

Full-term (3 month) Projects:

Adult Education: Classroom assistant for math and English classes. For more information contact Carrie Schmid.

Early Childhood Education: Volunteering in the toddler classroom (with children 1-2 years old), or in the preschool classroom (children 3-5 years old), assisting with classroom materials preparation, or acting as a reading tutor. Volunteering in the Early Childhood Education program requires a criminal background check.

Adelante Chicas (Youth Leadership): Get involved with the Chicas (girls), in an afterschool program setting as a group facilitator assistant and/or as a youth mentor. The Chicas meet once a week per school, Monday through Friday for 1.5 hours plus additional prep time. Volunteering would involve a commitment to atleast once a week throughout the term. Volunteering in this area also requires a satisfactory criminal background check.

Language exchange volunteer: Practice your Spanish or English with other community members during the summer (June-August).

Shorter Projects:

Adelante Agricultura (Micro Enterprise): Opportunities to serve with the organic farming program as a farm assistant, farm-to-market advisor, organic farming educator, or advisory committee member. Students could help one individual farmer with their marketing plan.

Adelante Empresas (Micro Enterprise): Get involved as a business coach/mentor or as a business development/special topics speaker

Forest Grove Farmers Market (Micro Enterprise): Volunteer as a market aide, assisting with planning and vendor coordination and/or market-day activities assistant. The market runs from May-Oct on Wednesdays from 4-8 pm. Assistant is needed every Wednesday from 2-9 pm.

Office/admin assistant: On-going short term office projects are available.

Website design intern: Adelante Mujeres needs students with knowledge of squarespace.com to assist with their website.

Community victory garden: One time opportunities to volunteer during their spring and fall garden workdays (usually a Friday or Saturday).
