What We Do

Neighborhood House mission statement:
Giving children a good start, providing hope for families, maintaining the dignity of older persons and helping neighbors
help themselves.  Neighborhood House brings neighbors together to feed the hungry, house the homeless, and educate young and old. We strengthen community by providing resources to support self-reliance, economic independence and dignity in people of all ages and backgrounds.
SUN Schools mission statement:
SUN's Mission is to improve the lives of children, their families and the community through partnering with local school communities to extend the school day and develop schools as "community centers" in their neighborhoods.  SUN Schools strive to be a community "hub". They link with other community institutions, such as the libraries, parks and community centers, neighborhood health clinics and area churches and businesses.

Opportunities for service with us

Jackson SUN School is looking for volunteers interested opportunities to work with middle school aged youth.  Our primary volunteer opportunity is with Homework Club which runs 3:45 to 5:00 Monday through Thursday.  Homework Club runs the whole school year! If school is in session and it's Monday-Thursday we have Homework Club!

We encourage volunteers ot commit to one SUN term.  That's approximately 9 weeks.

Jackson SUN School also welcomes volunteer instructors interesting in offering their unique talents to enrich the education of children!
