What We Do

The Arc of Washington County is a service organization that provides leadership, advocacy, education and inclusion opportunities for people with mental retardation or other developmental disabilities and their families. We are the only 'Arc' in Oregon that provides respite to families and direct care persons with mental or physical disabilities ages four and up.

Opportunities for service with us

There are a number of ways you can volunteer for The Arc of Washington County!  If you are looking for a long term commitment, you may want to consider either becoming a Board member or becoming a long-term program volunteer. Our participants love to see new faces! If you do not have ongoing time to give but would still like to give back to the disabled community, you can either volunteer in our program rooms or volunteer for one of our annual special events.

If you have a large group that wants to volunteer, please e-mail me with the group size and we can work together to build an activity that will be fulfilling and meaningful.

Some of the ways people have volunteered in the past are:

Reading to participants, playing games with participants, doing art projects with participants, dancing, playing music, outdoor games, outdoor yard or garden projects, administrative opportunities and special event volunteers.

We have an auction coming up on October 16th and are still looking for volunteers!  If you would like to become more acquainted with The Arc of Washington County, this would be a great opportunity!

For more information or to see volunteer job descriptions, please visit our website, www.arcwash.org.

**All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and able to pass a criminal background check** (larger youth groups can also volunteer for outdoor activities, please call or e-mail for more information.)
