Students Helping Instructors Nurture Education

SHINE (Students Helping Instructors Nurture Education) is looking for creative educational programs to support.  The Associated Students of Portland Community College (ASPCC) created this fund in order to help instructors offer exceptional ways to improve classroom experiences as a collaborative approach between students and faculty.  Money is allocated from the student activity fee budget.

In order to enhance the classroom-learning environment, Instructors may petition for funding for performers and speakers.  ASPCC requests the instructor commit to including the event as part of the class and open it to all students.  If needed, ASPCC will help with marketing.

Downloaded an application by click on the Shine Request Form link to the right. Submit the completed application to CC 101.  The application will be discussed by the ASPCC Sylvania student directors at their weekly meeting.  Notification of their decision will take a minimum of two weeks.

The ASPCC student directors will:

  • Evaluate the benefit to all PCC Sylvania students
  • Consider the creative and educational value
  • Discuss the appeal the event may have to a broad range of students and other related events on campus.

Instructors may request up to a total of $300 in SHINE funds per academic school year.  This may be matched by other sources such as departmental funding and grants.  Due to increasing interest in this program, the ASPCC student directors request that any one program/event not exceed $500 from student funds.
