Thinking Together: a districtwide conversation

We need your voices!

In continuation of the "Thinking Together" forums for students that began last term, there are additional forums scheduled this term and upcoming terms. Hosted by the Office of the President, Student Affairs, and the Office of Equity and Inclusion, these are opportunities for students to talk together and with College leadership about creating and enhancing our systems of support and inclusion at Portland Community College.

The forum format is changing, in part due to student input , to create a more intimate and personalized conversation with students. Instead of trying to coordinate this event simultaneously on all campuses, the forums will be hosted individually at each campus on a different date, as a kind of “tour” of the campuses. Students may attend the conversation at any campus they choose, as many time as they wish. The intent is to facilitate a more open dialogue with students that we could not achieve well with the technology used to conduct the previous forum.

We know that many of you have recently been experiencing uncertainty and concern. It is important that we create spaces and opportunities for PCC to come together in support and community. We need to name the community we want to be – and create it together. We need to think together about what this will look like. How do we build spaces and places that are welcoming and compassionate?

We need your voices, your lived experiences, your ideas. We need our students to be thought partners with us as we create proactive, sustainable programs and places.

Please come to a Thinking Together session. We acknowledge that no time is optimal for everyone, nor is any one place. If you can't make this meeting, send a friend. Send a friend who can convey your questions or ideas. This won't be the last opportunity for us to think together about what a college culture of openness and inclusion could be.

Additional forums are scheduled:

  • Southeast: March 9, 2017 - Tabor 146
  • Cascade: March 23, 2017 - Cascade Hall 310
  • Sylvania: April 17, 2017 - SCB 205
