WLD – Welding Instructor Qualifications

Education

AAS or higher degree in Welding Technology or related field is preferred; must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

Five years recent welding field experience is required. Five years recent teaching experience at the college level or industry training experience or a combination of teaching at the college level and industry trainer experience may be substituted, year for year, for recent welding field experience.

General Qualifications

Welding certifications in all areas of instruction are required within the first year of hire as follows:

  • GMAW ER70S-6, 2G limited plate
  • FCAW E71T-1, 3G and 4G unlimited plate
  • FCAW E71T-8, 3G and 4G unlimited plate
  • GTAW/SMAW ER70S-6/E7018 2” sch 80 pipe (uphill progression) 6G position
  • SMAW E6010, 6” sch 40 pipe (downhill progression), 6G position
  • SMAW E6010/E7018 6” sch 80 pipe (uphill progression), 6G position
  • SMAW E7018 3G and 4G unlimited plate

  • Both Full and Part Time faculty must hold at least one of the following certifications CWI, CAWI, or CWE to teach Structural Steel Welding Codes and Standards

WLD 101

  • Two years relevant industry experience working as any one of the following: a welder fabricator, welding inspector or a welding educator. Candidate must know essential variables of SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, CAC, Oxyfuel cutting, Plasma cutting and GTAW processes.

WLD 102

  • Two years relevant industry experience working as any one of the following: a welder fabricator, welding inspector or a welding educator. Candidate must have extensive knowledge of Welding Blueprints and Welding Symbols
Secondary Educators (Dual Credit)-Teaching WLD 111, 112, 113 & 271

Each year of teaching welding in secondary or postsecondary education can be substituted year for year for welding experience or successfully complete the PCC Welding Teachers Institute Course.
