This list may not be inclusive as there are other degree titles that may be appropriate for this subject area. The Division Dean, in consultation with the Faculty Department chair (informed by consultation with an instructor approved to teach Religious Studies courses) will make a recommendation to the Dean of Instruction about the applicability of a particular degree that is outside the scope of this list, with the understanding that focus of the degree should be applicable to the specific course in question, and focused on content of religion(s) being covered rather than the practice of such religions.

OR

a Master’s in a related area* and 30 quarter hours of graduate in subject area (see above); for M.Div., 30 quarter hours in coursework must be focused on content as opposed to direct ministry/practical training.

* Related areas include, but are not limited to:

  • A degree focused on the academic study (as opposed to the practice of) of any single religion
  • Anthropology
  • Archaeology
  • Area studies on any region of the world
  • English, or any other specific language
  • Ethics, Social Ethics
  • Geography
