Welding Instructor Qualifications prior to June 2022
Education
AAS in Welding Technology is preferred but not required; must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
Five years recent welding field experience is required. Five years recent teaching experience at the college level or industry training experience or a combination of teaching at the college level and industry trainer experience may be substituted, year for year, for recent welding field experience.
Certifications
Welding certifications in all areas of instruction are required within the first year of hire as follows:
- SMAW E-7018, 3G and 4G unlimited plate
- GMAW E-70S6 (hardwire) 2G unlimited plate
- FCAW – Dual Shield E 70 T 1, 3G and 4G unlimited plate
- FCAW – Inner Shield E 71T8, 3G and 4 G unlimited plate
- GTAW 2 inch Pipe 6G position
- SMAW 6 inch Pipe 6G position
For part time faculty only, welding certifications related to the teaching assignments are required within the first year of hire, as follows:

Professional Technical Instructor
Part-time Instructor Requirement (no full-time instructors at this time)
The part-time teaching assignment may include lecture and/or laboratory instruction.
PCC requires that part-time welding instructors meet welding department approval to determine qualifications for the teaching assignment. Qualifications may include all or some of the qualifications listed below depending on teaching assignment.
- Must document minimum two years field experience or training
- Multiple weld process
- Certify in SMAW or have certification
- Certify in FCAW in dual shield or have certification
