ENG Requirements:

English and Writing Instructor

Letter to Human Resources:

  • Education: MFA, MA, or Ph. D. in English, Rhetoric, and Composition, or equivalent interdisciplinary degree (e.g. Comparative Literature, American Studies, Humanities) with a minimum of 29 credit hours in literature and/ or Rhetoric and composition, with a minimum of 9 graduate hours in these areas.

  • Experience: In addition to the required education, the ideal candidate will have experience teaching writing
    and/or literature at the lower division collegiate level.

Existing:

  • Education: Master’s Degree in one of the following required: English, Rhetoric and Composition, or Fine Arts/ Creative Writing. A minimum of 29 upper division and graduate quarter hours in literature courses required with at least 9 of these hours at the graduate level. Degree must be from an accredited institution.

  • Experience: In addition to the required education, the ideal candidate will have experience teaching writing and/or literature at the lower division collegiate level.

Proposed language:

  • Education: MFA, MA, or Ph. D. in English, Rhetoric, and Composition, or equivalent interdisciplinary degree (e.g. Comparative Literature, American Studies, Humanities) with a minimum of 29 credit hours in literature and/ or Rhetoric and composition, with a minimum of 9 graduate hours in these areas.

  • MA. in English or M.F. A. in Creative Writing
    Recommendation that an MA. in Composition and Rhetoric with 9 graduate and 20 upper division hours in literature be included in list of qualifying degrees. Approved with the stipulation that such instructors only be permitted to teach the Intro to Literature sequence.
