EMS Faculty Minimum Qualifications:

 

  1. AAS Degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher learning and
  2. Currently licensed paramedic or EMS Medical Director (MD or DO) in good standing with the designated Oregon licensure authority and
  3. Transcription evidence of math competency equivalent to college algebra, or higher and
  4. Three years of clinical experience as a Nationally Registered or state certified/licensed Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (or equivalent, e.g. Mobile Intensive Care Technician) and
  5. Currently certified American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support Instructor and
  6. Currently certified Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor and
  7. Currently Certified Basic Trauma Life Support or Prehospital Trauma Life Support Instructor and
  8. One of the following: National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Instructor 1; Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Fire Service Instructor I and II; National Association of Emergency Medical Services Educators (NAEMSE) EMT Instructor; 40 hours of the Instructor Development Program offered by Oregon DPSST; transcription evidence validating 3 credits of adult learning theory
Instructors assigned to specific courses must meet the following requirements:

For EMS 100

  • Currently licensed Oregon EMT or higher and 
  • American Heart Association Core Instructor Course, or NFPA Instructor I Certification, or NAEMSE EMT Instructor Course, or equivalent and 
  • Documented training in the following topics: Blood borne Pathogens, Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations, and Incident Command System.

EMS 105*, 106*, 120

  • Currently certified Oregon EMT-Basic or higher in good standing with OR DHS and
  • AHA BLS Instructor Certified and
  • Three years experience at or above level being taught and
  • At least one of the following: NFPA Instructor 1, NAEMSE EMT Instructor, DPSST Instructor I and II, transcription 3 credits adult learning theory, or equivalent

EMS 113, 115, 118

  • Certification level at EMT-Basic or higher and
  • American Heart Association Core Instructor Course, or NFPA Instructor I Certification, or NAEMSE EMT Instructor Course, or equivalent.

EMS 114*

  • Certification level at EMT-Basic or higher. and 
  • American Heart Association Core Instructor Course, or NFPA Instructor I Certification, or NAEMSE EMT Instructor Course, or equivalent. and
  • Documented training in Emergency Vehicle Operations or five years emergency vehicle operations experience.

EMS 116

  • Certification level at EMT-Basic or higher  and
  • American Heart Association Core Instructor Course, or NFPA Instructor I Certification, or NAEMSE EMT Instructor Course, or equivalent  and
  • Documented training in Rescue Operations or five years rescue operations experience.

EMS 240, 242, 244, 246, 248, 250, 252

  • Currently certified Oregon EMT-Paramedic, or higher in good standing with OR DHS and
  • AHA ACLS Instructor Certified and
  • AHA LS Instructor Certified and
  • BTLS or PHTLS Instructor Certified and
  • Three years experience at or above level being taught and
  • At least one of the following: NFPA Instructor 1, NAEMSE EMT Instructor, DPSST Instructor I and II, transcription 3 credits adult learning theory, or equivalent and
  • AAS Degree or higher
