S 701 – voting rights under Membership and Organization

  • Full –time faculty and part-time faculty with assignment rights may vote
  • Each SAC may decide to allow or not allow part-time faculty without assignment rights to vote
  • Proxy voting is the purview of each SAC
  • Sub-committees, their use and how they are run is also the decision of the SAC.  Sub-committees make recommendations and then the entire SAC votes on them

S 701 Meetings and Operations

There were two action items under this section:

  • In the third paragraph, end of the first sentence add, “in a timely manner”
  • At the end of the second paragraph add, “all further recommendations and actions shall be reported back to the SAC

The above were added during a lengthy discussion that included the following points:

  • It was decided that putting in a time frame for “timely manner”  in number one would inhibit the open dialogue that exists at PCC
  • Deadlines or time frames for timely manner could also create problems for meeting state requirements prior to catalog publication
  • This document was an effort to make the process less consultative and more collaborative
  • Faculty are the experts in their discipline and know best about curriculum needs
  • Some wanted a broader exposure to Faculty curriculum concerns without the bias of the Administrative Liaison's non-recommendation
  • The new wording doesn’t use “support” as a function of the SAC Administrative Liaison (usually the Div Dean). Some SACs felt “support” was akin to “approval”, however, members noted that support could also be letting faculty know something wasn’t a good idea from their perspective so that faculty could enhance the proposal and make it better.
  • The absence of a faculty senate at PCC was noted.
  • Some felt that EAC, ASAP & Learning Assessment all deal with curriculum decisions and it’s not clear how they communicate with one another.
  • Concern that no child left behind  will make new alignments with high-schools and four year schools necessary was noted.
  • Change to Learning outcomes from learning content was brought up (Taylor Hanna noted this was not a function of ASAP)
  • Heather Cole wanted to know if she should come back.  She was told she could take new wording and suggestions to EAC

Grading Options

Under Transcript Miscellany, Repeated courses the following changes were approved and should read:

  • All grades earned will appear on the transcript
  • Courses with grades of D, F, and NP, or marks of I, CIP, and CIPR may be repeated for a higher grade
  • The first earned grade of C, P, or better will count in the accumulated credit total

The other two bullets were deleted.

Next Meeting: TBA in September, but it will deal with E202 Experimental Courses policy wording regarding how many times such courses can be offered/repeated

Retreat please let Taylor know what dates would work for a retreat at the beginning of next year

A request was made to put a note  in the minutes – Rebecca Mathern will create a web page describing  how to read a PCC transcript.
