Discussion & Refinement of SAC Chairs + Meeting Nov 7th, 1-3pm

ASAP will invite department chairs, SAC chair, deans & other interested parties to a meeting November 7th from 1-3.  Members will answer questions and concerns these people may have about the new registration process and grading concerns connected with it. Using ITV facilities was recommended to avoid travel.

Grading Guidelines

Students

Members refined verbiage in the grading guidelines for students.  Taylor Hanna will make the changes and distribute.   The definition of an audit was discussed at some length.  No consensus was reached regarding a definition.

Faculty

The wording in this section was reorganized and clarified.  Taylor will make changes and distribute.  Faculty, during Fall In-Service, will determine which classes may be offered P/NP,  A through F, or as an audit.  The SACs will need to get that information to curriculum by January 16th, on the classes they are responsible for.  Faculty will need to show last date attended when entering a NS for a grade.  The student will then be graded F or a NP, depending on how they registered for the class if they have not dropped it by the published drop deadline.

Implementation

There was much discussion about when this would become effective.  Concern was expressed about starting it in Fall.  There was also apprehension that it would be too much for the IAAs to enter summer with the new criteria, and then almost immediately have to enter fall.  Summers schedule entry will be the most difficult because so much of summer schedule is not standard length.  It was finally agreed that it would pilot Summer of 2009, which would allow for any bugs to be worked out before Fall 2009.
