Social Studies: Accomplished teachers know the major issues, concepts, themes, and ideas in social studies. They draw on a solid foundation in social studies. history-3 cr., civics, economics, and geography- 3 cr., HDFS- 3cr.

Mathematics: Accomplished teachers know the major concepts, procedures, processes, and ideas of mathematics that define number systems and number sense, computation, geometry, algebra, measurement, and statistics and probability- 9 cr.

*Students who are interested in teaching the lower grades (K-3) often major in Human Development & Family Sciences with an option in Early Childhood Development & Education. If you are interested in this major, it is recommended that you complete WR 121 & 227 along with SP 214. It is also recommended that you complete both HPE 295 and FN 225.

With an Education Double Degree, you will be authorized to teach at one of the following levels: Early Childhood/Elementary (age 3-grade 4); Elementary (grades 3-8); Middle Level (grades 5-10; or High School (grades 7-12).

The Education Double Degree for K-12 is 40 quarter hours: 8 credits of core requirements; 17 credits of teaching methods; and 15 credits of student teaching.

Students are required to take the CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test) and pass it prior to being admitted to the provisional level of the program. Prior to student teaching you must complete and pass the appropriate PRAXIS test. For more information on the tests you can go to their websites at www.cbest.nesinc.com and www.ets.org/praxis.
