Russian is the second most sought-out language by employers according to a September 3, 2001 article in The Oregonian:
"In a wide range of fields, from teaching to high-tech, the word is out that if you are bilingual and qualified, you’ll get the job… Spanish ranks as the state’s most sought-after language skill, followed by Russian and Vietnamese, experts say."
In addition, Russian has been designated as a "critical need" language by the US government. "Critical language" is a term used in the US to designate languages for which there is large demand for language professionals but little supply.
