Thank you for your interest in the Nursing program at Portland Community College (PCC).

In 2010 PCC is excited to be joining the Oregon Consortium for Nursing Education (OCNE). This coalition of statewide nursing educators and programs consists of OHSU, PCC, Umpqua Community College, Southwestern Oregon Community College, Rogue Community College, Lane Community College, Clackamas Community College, and Blue Mountain Community College.  OCNE schools have the same prerequisites and comparable application processes for students.

Admission Criteria

45 prerequisite credits are required to begin the PCC nursing program. 

  • At least 30 of the 45 credits of prerequisites must be completed by the end of fall 2009. 
  • The remaining prerequisites must be completed by the end of Spring 2010.

The 30 credits must include BI231 and Math 95/Math competency. Students who satisfy the MTH 95 requirement by competency must complete a Compass, Asset or Acuplacer placement test and place into Math 111 equivalent or higher. The placement test must be completed by the end of fall term 2009 (December 13, 2009). Students who satisfy the math requirement with placement test will need to meet the minimum 45 credits required for entry to nursing school by completing additional electives. Electives may include college-level math(ie. Mth 243 – statistics) and foreign language, 100 level or higher, and may include the extra credits when a 4 or 5 credit course is taken to meet a 3 credit requirement.

Grade requirements

Cumulative GPA of prerequisite courses must be at least a 3.0.

  • Individual prerequisite courses must be taken for a letter grade and must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher.

Applications for the 2010 application will be available online or in the Health Admission Office 4 weeks prior to the open application period

Students may begin submitting their application once the application is complete. Applications must include final transcripts.

We will not accept any applications submitted before January 2nd.  Applications and all supplemental materials must be received in the Health Admissions Office by February 15th at 5:00 pm deadline. We do not accept postmarked applications. Faxed, emailed or scanned applications will not be accepted. 

All required documentation is the full responsibility of the applicant. Failure to provide all required documentation, including contact information, will invalidate the application.
