The Certificates

Gerontology: Activity Assistant Certificate
This certificate prepares students to work effectively as activity professionals with diverse groups of older adults in long term care, adult daycare and community settings; to design and implement appropriate activity plans, using State and CMS required assessment and documentation; and to meet eligibility standards for certification by the National Certification Council of Activity Professionals as an Activity Assistant Certified, when combined with continuing education and work experience criteria. The credits earned in this Certificate apply toward the Gerontology 1-year Certificate and AAS Degree. Pre-requisite: GED or high school diploma
The Gerontology: Activity Assistant Certificate (23 credits) meets the educational requirements for the NCCAP Activity Assistant Certified. Certification by NCCAP would require completion of 20 related CEU hours, plus 2000 hours of work in activities within the last 5 years.
Gerontology: Activity Director Certificate
This certificate prepares students to work effectively as activity professionals and manage activity departments for diverse groups of older adults in long term care, adult daycare and community settings; to design and administer quality activity programs, meeting State and CMS standards and regulations and to meet eligibility standards for certification by the National Certification Council of Activity Professionals as an Activity Director Certified, when combined with continuing education and work experience criteria. The credits earned in this Certificate apply toward the Gerontology 1-year Certificate and AAS Degree. Pre-requisite: GED or high school diploma
The Gerontology: Activity Director Certificate (35 credits) meets the educational requirements for NCCAP Activity Director Certified. Certification by NCCAP would require completion of 30 related CEU hours, plus 6000 hours of work in activities within the last 5 years.
Gerontology: Activity Consultant Certificate
This certificate prepares students to work effectively as activity professional managers or consultants with diverse groups of older adults in long term care, adult daycare and community settings; to design, administer, and evaluate activity programs, meeting state and CMS standards and regulations; and to meet eligibility standards for certification by National Certification Council of Activity Professionals as an Activity Consultant Certified, when combined with continuing education, and consulting and work experience criteria. Pre-requisite: BA or MA degree
The Gerontology: Activity Consultant Certificate (20 credits) meets the educational requirements for NCCAP Activity Consultant Certified. This certificate requires a BA or MA degree, completion of 200 hours consulting experience within the last 3 years, 40 CEU hours within the last 5 years, and 2000 hours (with an MA) or 4000 hours (with a BA) activity experience within the last 5 years.
