Grüße von dem Deutschprogramm des Portland Community College
Maus, Haus, Bier, Katze: What do these words have in common? They are all German cognates. Can you guess their English equivalents? It’s easy: mouse, house, beer and cat!
German is easier to learn than you might think and is the second most commonly used scientific language. Germany is also a great place to study and work. Germany awards a great number of scholarships and working visas for students and professionals.
So why study German at PCC? Because we have a great program offering a variety of day and evening courses, great instructors, and great students. PCC is also very affordable.
We also have many activities outside the classroom: field trips, service learning, German Day (see video), German Club and Stammtisch. Stammtisch is a monthly informal get-together at a local restaurant where students, friends, and family can practice their German while eating and drinking traditional German fare.

Willkommen im Deutschprogramm!
German courses are lower division collegiate courses that transfer to a four-year college or university. German courses may transfer as:
- elective credits
- program requirement credits
- and/or graduation requirements for the receiving institution
Please note: PCC does not offer a specific degree in German. However, talk with an advisor if you are interested in earning an Associate Degree while studying German and preparing to transfer to a four year institution.
Students are always encouraged to check with the receiving institution, a PCC academic advisor, Faculty Chair Kristi Tompkins and the University Transfer website for the most accurate and timely transfer requirement information.
