Admission

Please follow the steps outlined below to apply for admission. The admission process must be completed before practicum placement.

Application

Step 1) Application Packet

Please contact Tanya Mead in the Education Department to request an application. Complete and submit the application as instructed on the form.

Step 2) Interview

As soon as you have met the prerequisites, you may start education courses even if you have not met with the department. Prior to or during your first term, schedule an advising interview with Tanya Mead in the Education Department. Please bring any unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended since high school or GED.

Step 3) College Placement Tests

Schedule and complete the placement test. If you are new to college and intend to earn a certificate, a degree, or plan to transfer to another institution, you must complete the COMPASS placement test prior to registering for class. Students with prior college credit should discuss this with an Education Department advisor and contact a general academic advisor for proper course placement.

Important things to know about the program:

Online learning

Most of our courses are offered in an online format. While we still try and offer face to face options, the online courses have become more prevalent. If you are uncertain about online learning, it is important to come in, meet with PCC faculty, and get oriented to this style of learning.

Practicum

Students will have the opportunity to get real world experience in a classroom or library setting during one to two terms. You must have completed at least four education courses with a B or better to sign up for practicum. You may be asked to show proof of measles immunizations and/or be subject to a criminal background check. You must have met with the PCC faculty before signing up for practicum. Requests to participate in practicum must be made at the beginning of the term before the actual practicum term.
