Building Inspection Technology - Program Overview

student in a building inspection class

Completion of the Associate of Applied Science degree in Building Inspection or the One-Year Certificate both enable you to launch a career as a building inspector or plans examiner in a relatively short period of time: two years or fewer. Our programs prepare you for a career in the Code Administration field with a focus on successful completion of one or more International Code Council (ICC) certification exams. These certificates are recognized by the State of Oregon as well as throughout the United States as verification of your knowledge, technical expertise and commitment to protect the public’s health, safety and welfare. The BIT program is offered primarily evenings and online. Some classes are also available during the day.

While in the program, students must:
  • Complete minimum program courses and prerequisites for individual classes.
  • Obtain a “C” or better in all courses.
  • Complete a cooperative work experience during the day at a local jurisdiction.
