In PCC’s Building Inspection Technology program, we provide a diverse set of skills, enabling you to begin a career working in an essential public safety position as a residential building inspector or plans examiner.
PCC offers a Building Inspection Technology (BIT) program delivered by experts in the field. Students develop and apply basic understanding of concepts, theories, and principles of construction and codes with a residential focus. A broad curriculum including:
- construction materials
- building systems
- codes
- plans review
in addition to courses in:
- interpersonal communication
- computers
- mathematics,
and cooperative work experience at a local city or county building department, prepares you for a career in building inspection and/or plan review. Graduates may find employment in public and private code enforcement agencies, construction firms, engineering or architectural firms, and other related industries.
Please note that the Residential Structural and Mechanical Inspection and Plans Examination Certificate trains someone to work in a public jurisdiction as a permits inspector or a permits plans examiner and not to work as a home inspector during the buying and selling of property. For more information on home inspection, please check with the Oregon Construction Contractors Board.
Degrees and Certificates
PCC is one of only two colleges in Oregon to offer career and technical training in residential Building Inspection Technology. We offer all courses in the evening on the Sylvania campus and a few courses are offered in an online format. There is no online only option.
- Residential Structural and Mechanical Inspection and Plans Examination Certificate
