Placement Testing

At Rock Creek, students may take the ESOL placement test Monday mornings or Tuesday evenings. Testing is by appointment only. Placement tests are not given during the first three weeks of each term at Rock Creek.

Steps to Get Started

  1. Fill out the admissions form.
  2. Call 503-614-7300 for a placement test appointment. Ask for an appointment to take the Compass ESL test.
  3. Go to the Testing Center on the first floor of Building 9 at Rock Creek at the time a testing session is scheduled to begin.
    • Bring a picture ID card, such as a driver's license or a passport.

After you have taken the test, you will be given a date and time to come back to the ESOL department for an advising session.

Please Note: Please come in and take the test as early as possible! Classes fill quickly!

Current Schedule of Classes

Most terms, two sections of each course are offered. See the main ESOL site for details about the program. Rock Creek's smaller summer program offers two sections of Level 1 - 3 classes and only one section each of Level 4 - 8 classes.

Level 1, 2, 3 (non-credit only), levels 4 and 5 (credit or non-credit) have morning and evening classes. Levels 6, 7 and 8 (credit only) have morning and afternoon classes.

Textbooks required for these classes are listed on the PCC Bookstore website.

Language Lab

The Language Learning Lab is located in Building 3, Room 233. It is open to students currently taking ESOL classes or other language classes. It's a great place to use computers, practice English, meet with a tutor, and do homework.

Tutoring

Tutoring is in the Language Learning Lab (Building 3, Room 233).

Tutoring is offered for enrolled Level 4-8 ESOL students who want to practice speaking, listening, pronunciation, or receive help with writing and grammar or reading assignments.  There is no charge to students.  Come join us for interesting and informative conversations that will improve your vocabulary, answer questions about American culture and make you laugh and feel good about learning English.
