Technical High School Academy
Do you have a strong interest in a professional technical program that isn't available at your high school? Do you want to move more quickly into a career field than you are able to through your high school studies? Are you feeling like high school just isn't working for you, and you (and your parents!) need an alternative?
If you are a high school student in your junior or senior year, with good academic skills, you might just be able to take that "big step forward" through Portland Community College's Technical High School Academy program. The Academy is all about expanding PCC's opportunities, in partnership with local high schools, to students just like you.
PCC has programs in over 40 career areas that would be available to you, through the Academy, while you are still in high school. You could take classes in graphic arts or microelectronics technology, using PCC's facilities and equipment, while taking your English and history courses at your own high school. You could start your two-year college degree in automotive service technology, computer applications, or dental assisting with the help of PCC faculty experts, and apply your college credits toward your high school diploma as well.
Talk to your counselor about your school's partnership with the Academy. If appropriate, a meeting will be arranged with the PCC faculty and staff who will offer you support through your experience with college classes. They will help you develop a program and schedule that will get you going forward faster than you thought you could. |
