PAVTEC Student Access, Recruitment and Retention (StARR) Task Force


Summary of Accomplishments for 2000 - 2001

  1. Sponsored workshop for high school counselors about PCC PTE programs.
    1. 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., April 19 at PCC Rock Creek Campus, Pioneer Room
  2. Improved the alignment of high school professional technical programs with PCC programs.
    1. brought PCC and high school faculty together for planning and alignment through articulation meetings
    2. coordinated the PCC - High School Professional Technical Education Connections Forum, February 27, Southridge High School
  3. Investigate sponsoring summer exploratory program for middle and/or high school age students in professional technical areas at PCC.
    1. extensive discussions about potential design and implementation
    2. promote PCC EXCITE program for this summer
  4. Conduct follow-up study of articulated high school students.
    1. students expressed high satasfaction level with articulation opportunities
    2. higher percentages of articulated students attend PCC than non-articulated students
  5. Support Transition Fairs (to PCC) for high school students with special needs.


Proposed Activities for 2001 - 2002

  1. Sponsore workshop for high school counselors about PCC PTE programs.
  2. Improve the alignment and articulation of high school PTE programs with PCC.
    1. bring PCC and high school faculty together for planning and alignment
    2. coordinate another PCC - High School PTE Connections Forum
  3. Sponsor summer exploratory program and Alternative Learning Opportunities for high school age students in professional technical areas at PCC with the intent to expand it the following summer
  4. Improve access connections to PCC PTE programs for ESL high school students.
  5. Support PCC Transition Fairs.
