PAVTEC Special Populations Task Force


Summary of Accomplishments for 2000 - 2001

  1. Supported Transition Fairs (to PCC) for Students with Special Needs.
    1. PCC Rock Creek Campus: April 10, 200+ students
    2. PCC Sylvania Campus: Evening of April 24, includes parents
    3. Visits to PCC Rock Creek of ESL students
  2. Developed and distributed materials:
    1. New booklet: "Preparing to Attend PCC - A guide for High School Students with Disabilities"
    2. PCC Quick Reference Guide
    3. Presentation Tool Kit related to working with special needs students
  3. Provided staff development opportunities
    1. Conference presentation about PAVTEC Special Populations activities
    2. Project integrating workbased / project-based learning activities into curriculum of special education teacher pre-service preparation at PSU
  4. Supported special needs students in PSU engineering hands-on project to introduce them to high tech careers


Proposed Activities for 2001 - 2002

  1. Conduct Transition Fairs (to PCC) for Students with Special Needs
  2. Develop and distribute materials, e.g. Quick Reference Guide, etc.
  3. Provide staff development opportunities:
    1. workshop for educators and Vocational Rehabilitation workers on transitioning students to careers and PCC
    2. BEC coordination costs for visitations to industry for teachers of students with special needs
    3. training for teachers of special populations students in the use of Bridges software
    4. conference presentations
  4. Support the Gender Equity Team
  5. Expand the PCC Culinary Arts program for students with special needs to the PCC Southeast Center as a school-based enterprise
