PCC's "Guiding Principles"

March 8, 1999
(related to PCC serving high school age students)

  1. PCC considers itself to be a partner in the educational community in this region and highly values the positive relationships that exist between itself and local K-12 school districts.
  2. PCC recognizes that its primary focus is students of post-high school age in contrast to the primary focus of the K-12 school system.
  3. It is the intent of PCC to serve high school age students only through programs or opportunities which complement and supplement the efforts of its K-12 partners rather than compete with or replace them.
  4. Prior to establishing PCC programs which are designed for high school age students, PCC will solicit input from K-12 school districts in order to assure that those programs are in the best interest of both PCC and its K-12 partners and, most of all, in the best interest of the student.

The above Guiding Principles (related to PCC serving high school age students) have been adopted by the College and were suggested by the PCC Options Workgroup composed of Diane Delgado, Specialist, High School Completion, Sylvania Campus; Carol Farra, Specialist, High School Completion, Rock Creek Campus; Brad New, Director, Alternative Learning Opportunities, Open Campus; and Bill Manley, Staff Support, PAVTEC Education Consortium.
