PCC's "Guiding Principles"
"Guiding Principles" Supplement
December 8, 1999
(related to the role of PCC in CAM implementation)
- Consistent with the Guiding Principles (related to PCC serving high school age students) above and the recognition that the Certificate of Advanced Mastery (CAM) is a high school initiative, PCC will not offer or issue a CAM as part of its regular programs. (A potential exception might be in the PCC alternative programs that specifically target out-of-high-school youth. In that case, offering a CAM would be determined by the Guidelines above and alternative school rules and regulations.)
- PCC recognizes that the Oregon Department of Education CAM Guidelines contain a "post-secondary connections" component and is willing to be a resource to high schools in addressing that component. Examples of potential related activities include:
-joint curriculum development, especially related to the CAM Endorsement Areas of Study,
-articulation of high school programs with PCC programs,
-common staff development activities,
-assistance in providing career and educational information to students and parents,
-availability of the PCC Technical High School Academy, and
-assistance in transitioning students to PCC.
- At this time and unless requested and supported by high schools, PCC will not be involved in assessment activities related to CAM other than its regular assessment processes for placement into and exit from PCC programs.
PCC does not intend to offer a "CAM Credential" but will continue its extensive practice of issuing program certificates and credentials of competencies.
