Keynote Speaker: Erica Ritter

Erica is a Science Educator from the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI.) As such, she conducts workshops for students of all ages and speaks to many groups. Her presentation will include several captivating demonstrations.

 Erica is a “home-grown” women. She attended Five Oaks Middle School and Aloha High School in Beaverton, with honors in several subjects including drama, science, English, and math. Erica has a Bachelors degree from Hampshire College in Physics and Art.

 Erica is the co-author of a book called The Ultimate Girls’ Guide to Science, and has had a few illustrations published.

 In her spare time Erica enjoys spending time with her family, outdoor activities, reading and writing, and environmental studies.

" You've heard of the Endangered Species Act, but do you know how it works? -  The goal of the Endangered Species Act (ESA) is to conserve endangered species and the ecosystem on which they depend. In this work shop, we'll begin by learning about the ESA and some rare species in the Willamette Valley. Then we'll play a game in which you'll use the ESA to protect populations of a rare species from potential threats of habitat loss, disturbance, and random environmental disasters.
