Student Career Days

PAVTEC, the Machine Manufacturing Department and Engineering Departments are hosting another round of Student Career Days at PCC Sylvania Campus.  Last year, nearly 200 high school students came to campus and split their time between the Machine Manufacturing and Engineering programs.

Because of safety and student interest considerations, the maximum number of students a day is limited to 25.  Please hold to this maximum for safety considerations.  This number does not include teacher/chaperone count.

Schools can choose from the dates that are still available listed below, and through Robin Foleen in the PAVTEC office (robin.foleen@pcc.edu or 971-722-7734).

(All are Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.)

There will be a variety of activities including hands-on learning opportunities providing students with an insight into what today's Machinists, Civil/Mechanical and Electrical Engineers and related occupations do in the field.

Here's a brief description of what a day might look like:

9:15 – 9:30 Buses to arrive, there will not be any staff or student help if they arrive any earlier.

9:30 - 9:45 Orientation to the PCC Machine Manufacturing Technology program

9:45 - 12:00 Students will divide into three groups and rotate every 45 minutes between a tour of the Sylvania Campus and shop-project work. Last year, students built their very own mini flashlights using a variety of mills, lathes and CNC machines, as well as participating in a Mastercam demo. Students get a firsthand look at what it is like to be a student at PCC by touring the campus.  (This year's project is yet to be determined. In previous years, students have manufactured miniature ball peen hammers, parallel clamps, and bottle openers.

12:00 - 12:30 Lunch (provided) Engineering program will give a presentation

12:30 - 2:00 Students will be divided into two groups and rotate between the Engineering lab and Electronics Engineering lab.

2:00 Buses arrive to pickup students.
