Career Pathways
Announcing the PAVTEC Career Pathways
Website!
www.pcc.edu/pavtec/pathways
Last February, PAVTEC received a grant from
the Oregon Department of Education to develop a
website tool for use in researching career
pathways. The website was developed to provide
an attractive, friendly and useful resource to
students, their parents and school advisors
related to educational and career planning. It
can be used to inform (but not replace) high
school students' Educational Plan and Profile (EPP).
It is a resource that advisors, especially those
who may be familiar with only a few of the
multitude of career and educational
opportunities, can use with their advisees. The
Career Pathways website is meant to complement
and supplement existing career and educational
information systems, e.g., CIS, Bridges, ECOS,
OLMIS, DISCOVER, etc., and includes specific
information about PCC opportunities but not
limited to PCC.

Career
Pathways flier. (PDF File)
The website includes 17 pathways categorized by
six Focus Areas:

- Recommended high school courses
- Post-high school options such as
certificate and degree programs at
institutions throughout Oregon
- Dual credit opportunities of earning
college credit for high school and
college-level courses at the same time
- Entrance requirements for local colleges
- Student organizations to join while
still in high school
- Professional organizations to help in
your research
- Suggestions of different learning
experiences that give students opportunities
to view a particular occupation beyond a
textbook of classroom project (i.e. job
shadowing and internships)
- Qualities desirable in future employees
In addition, the project included the
development of a flyer and poster which will
direct visitors to the website. A flyer
is attached to this email and is
intended to be a front and back 8 1/2 x 11
flyer. Feel free to print and copy the attached
flyer for your immediate use until the printed
copies are available. PAVTEC is currently having
these flyers printed and will have them
available in mass quantity for your building
use. We have not yet finalized our distribution
plan so would appreciate knowing how many you
might need for your own use and/or your school.
The posters are not yet in production, but we
hope to have them available after the holiday
break.
This website is an ever evolving resource and
any comments or suggestions are welcome. PAVTEC
and Portland Community College are committed to
the ongoing maintenance of the website. Feel
free to contact Karen Jones at 503-614-7737 or
