About PAVTEC
The purpose of PAVTEC is to enhance the access of high school and PCC students to quality professional technical (vocational) education. This encompasses a broad scope ranging from career development and guidance programs to technical skill development instructional programs.
PAVTEC is a "tech prep" Consortium composed of all of the K-12 school districts that are within the PCC district boundary, the College itself, and several other entities, e.g., PSU, OIT, the Business-Education Compact, Oregon Building Congress / Associated General Contractors, Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, etc. The common theme of all PAVTEC members is professional technical education and workforce development.
PCC is the managing entity and fiscal agent for the Consortium. All PAVTEC resources come from federal Carl Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act funds either directly to PAVTEC/PCC or through Consortium member contributions. The PAVTEC program of work and corresponding funding priorities are determined by a PAVTEC Council with input from PAVTEC Task Forces, High School Principals, and School District Superintendents. PCC has access to representation in all of these groups.
PAVTEC manages PCC's dual enrollment (articulation) program between high schools and PCC for both
Professional Technical (PT) courses and Lower Division Collegiate (LDC) courses. In the 2000-01 school year, approximately 1780 high school students earned approximately 12,800 PCC credits generating approximately 400 FTE for the college.
One of the primary functions of PAVTEC is to provide leadership, coordination, and resources for staff development for high school and PCC professional technical instructors and counselors especially related to the connection of high school professional technical programs with PCC programs. In addition, PAVTEC staff provide technical assistance to the K-12 member districts related to adding and improving professional technical programs and serve as a liaison between PAVTEC member high schools and the Oregon Department of Education Office of Professional Technical Education. |
