Collection development goal
The purpose of the PCC Library's alcohol and drug counseling collection is to support the curriculum offerings in the Associate of Applied Science Degree Alcohol and Drug Counseling, and Addcition Counseling Certificate programs. Students in the ADC program learn to "motivate clients to enter treatment, conduct intake interviews, write treatment plans, provide individual counseling, conduct family education, do group counseling, manage cases and keep records, make ethical decisions, use multicultural competency, and employ gender-specific treatment methods."
The library seeks to acquire current materials in the field of ADC. These include books, videos, periodicals and other materials on alcohol and drug treatment; counseling; case management; individual, group and gender-specific counseling; family education, and multicultural perspectives on counseling and addiction. The library's alcohol and drug counseling collection specialist works in cooperation with the PCC Alcohol and Drug Counseling program faculty to ensure appropriate coverage.
