Collection Areas: 371.102 (remedial teaching) 373, 373.1262 (General education development tests), 428.40715 (reading, adult education), 428.4 (reading), 428.42071073 (reading, remedial teaching, U.S.) 973 (U.S. history), Science and Math (500s), Social Sciences (300s)

Collection Statement:
This program is going to be reorganized with the ENNL (English as a Non-Native Language) and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. The new area of study will be the “Pre-College Program.” Historically, the Library has supported the ABE/GED program through the collection of GED test preparation materials and limited high-interest, low-level reading materials. With the reorganization, it is expected that the Library will continue to collect in these areas, with added emphasis in reading, social studies, history, science and math.

The Department recommends selection of materials published by the Contemporary or Steck-Vaughn companies in particular.

Exclusions: Workbooks, with some exceptions; classroom sets of titles.

Types of Formats: Monographs, periodicals (general interest reading), videos/DVDs, Books on Tape.

Level of Collection:
Introductory; basic information level.

Language: English and limited Spanish (GED materials).

Geography: U. S.

Currency: Test study materials should reflect the changes in the GED testing as of Jan. 2001. Earlier study aids may be acceptable if supplemental materials are available.

Distribution of Materials: Cascade Library (program enrollment is highest at this campus), Rock Creek and Capital Center and Sylvania Libraries (program enrollment is nearly equal). If the new Southeast Center includes a Library, materials should be placed there as well. The program at that location is large.
